Before this, Sara-Jane was Principal of SGS College and Deputy Chief Executive of the SGS Group for nine years, achieving significant growth in 16 to 18-year-old learner numbers from 1,300 to more than 4,000, playing a key role in developing the apprenticeship programme to 1,500 apprentices and expanding its provision for 14 to 16-year-olds. With a Master's degree in Marketing from the University of the West of England and an Honours degree in Countryside Management, Sara-Jane was previously Communications Director at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire. Sara-Jane Watkins was appointed CEO and Principal of WCG in September 2024 and is responsible for providing leadership across the six colleges in the group, implementing Corporation decisions, managing the day-to-day budget and resources, and overseeing all aspects of staff and student culture.
Angela began her career as a secondary school teacher in Leicestershire before deciding to move into further education. She worked at Moulton College for eight years developing their sports, land-based and hospitality and catering curriculum before moving to Peterborough Regional College as vice-principal, deputy principal, and most recently as Principal and Chief Executive. Notable achievements at Peterborough included a Joint Venture Company to create a University Centre for higher education; the development of a profitable learning company subsidiary; the college becoming an approved academy sponsor; a marked increase in college success rates and; the college being rated as consistently ‘outstanding’ for financial health by the SFA. Angela also led a range of innovative external projects working with a range of regional employers which included Caterpillar Perkins and partnering Anglian Water in leading the development of a University Technical College. Angela is a keen athlete who has competed at international level in athletics and also enjoys horse riding and one-day eventing.
