James was appointed as the first permanent CEO, taking up his role in April 2017. James has experience of leading both sixth form and tertiary colleges and extensive experience of A Level, general further education and higher education provision. He was previously Principal and CEO of Strode College in Somerset for seven years, leading the college to being graded outstanding by Ofsted in 2014. Prior to that, he was Vice Principal at Richard Huish College in Taunton from June 2006 to August 2010, which was graded outstanding in 2007. James has a degree in History from St John’s College, Cambridge, and has served as a senior examiner for AQA in A Level History. He represented the further education sector on the consultation group used by Burning Glass and IPPR to develop ‘Where the work is’, an interactive tool to explore skills demand for particular occupations. He currently chairs a national policy group for the Association of Colleges. |
