John has over 30 years’ experience of working within both the Further (FE) and Higher Education (HE) sector and is currently Vice Principal at USP College, which was recently graded "Good" by OfSTED with High Needs Provision graded “Outstanding”. Over the course of 30 years John has held responsibility for and led significant areas within the College, including, Science Engineering and Technology (STEM), Foundation Learning, HE, Adult, Community Learning, Apprenticeships, and the majority of Business Support services. More recently he has been heavily involved supporting and developing the career focused learning strategy and the developing Digital and Green Technologies and innovative curriculum design and delivery. John currently sits on a number of education, skills and economic development boards in Essex, where he chairs the “Thurrock Skills Task Force” and the Federation of Essex Colleges, SEND Sub-group. John is a Chemistry graduate, obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in this field at the University of Central Lancashire in 1992, gaining significant experience within the chemical engineering sector. He also has extensive teaching experience in both FE and HE and is a qualified assessor. Prior to his most recent role, as Vice Principal at USP College in Essex, John started his career in education as a Lecturer in Science, Chemistry and IT at the University of Central Lancashire before moving to Seevic College in 1994 to become Head of Science. He then joined the Senior Leadership Team 4 years later as Director of Information Systems before becoming Vice Principal in July 2010.
