I have worked in ACL for 18 years now, starting in ESOL delivery. I now manage Newham's Adult Education Service which includes quality assurance and curriculum development for LBN, overseeing 11 subject sectors and the quality of teaching, learning and assessment to around 8000 learners annually. I keep my hand in teaching, by delivering internal training as well as delivering a variety of arts and crafts workshops on a. Regular basis. This relatively new role is a challenge, but has consolidated by management skills and will develop my leadership.
I manage a team of adult education Managers, an Observation of teaching and learning Team, 6 curriculum leads and 4 part time quality support staff. I also have overall strategic responsibility for curriculum development, quality assurance and improvement, SAR production QIP implementation, workforce development, CPD, the whole organisational approach, E&D, Learner voice, and self assessment.
I have strong interpersonal skills, customer service experience and outstanding communication skills. Past jobs include, retail management, fashion designer and publican. Each diverse, yet all offering a plethora of transferable skills which have had stood me well in my current role. I pride myself on taking a hands on approach to management, I lead by example, and appreciate input from all members of the team if it has a positive impact on the overall job at hand. I have a reputation for being proactive and tend to find reactive management frustrating and limiting.
In addition to my current role I have also been involved in delivering National training for Basic skills agency, LSIS and KPMG. I am currently awaiting training to become an associate Ofsted inspector.
